No. The herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores can’t be cured. Unfortunately after you get infected, the virus stays in your body for the rest of your life. However, there are a wide range of over the counter cold sore remedies, like creams and ointments that dry up the blisters.
How did I get this?

A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child this way. The disease stays dormant in all but the unlucky few who end up getting cold sores. Genetics may play a part – new studies are tracking three genes that could relate to how HSV-1 reactivates itself, causing outbreaks.
